In the last 2 years there ahs been a rapid increase in virtual machines usage. They are very convinient for many reasons.

One of the problems that existed were that it is not easy to migrate physical machines to a virtual machine. However there are many developments that made this easy:

VMware converter - convert any windows machine to VMware image
http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/converter/

Ultimate-P2V project - convert windows machines to VMware image
http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/?page_id=174

The second one I tested with XP and Win2003 and it worked, for Win2000 machine it failed (the approach listed here however works http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822052 ) :-(

The first one juet pop-up recently and friends at VMware say this is the tool. Well try it ...

If anyone happens to have information for easy Linux migration, please feel free to share it. Theere are solutions but not free something like $100 per single migration
